Month-by-Month Guide

January–February

Temperature: 3–10°C | Rain: Moderate | Price: Lowest

Cold and quiet. Beautiful for intimate indoor celebrations in historic villas. Fewer tourists, atmospheric misty mornings, dramatic fireplaces. Outdoor ceremonies are not advisable.

March

Temperature: 8–15°C | Rain: Moderate | Price: Low

Spring begins. Wildflowers appear, almond trees blossom. Weather is unpredictable — some warm days, some cold. Indoor backup essential.

April

Temperature: 12–20°C | Rain: Some | Price: Moderate

Lovely month. Gardens come alive with wisteria, roses and iris. Comfortable temperatures for outdoor events. Occasional rain showers. Book popular venues 12+ months ahead.

May

Mean daily maximum: 24.5°C | Rainfall: 65.9 mm | Price: High

Peak season begins. Excellent weather, lush green landscapes, wildflower meadows. One of the best months overall. Very popular — book early.

June

Mean daily maximum: 29.1°C | Rainfall: 47.9 mm | Price: Peak

Warm, sunny, long days (sunset ~9pm). Perfect for outdoor celebrations. Increasingly hot toward the end of June. Very high demand.

July

Mean daily maximum: 32.2°C | Rainfall: 26.2 mm — the driest month of the year | Price: Peak

Hot. Mid-afternoon temperatures can reach 35°C+. Early morning and evening are magical. Schedule ceremonies for late afternoon (5pm+). Ensure shade and cooling.

August

Mean daily maximum: 32.5°C — the hottest month | Rainfall: 39.9 mm | Price: Moderate–High

Hottest month. Many Italians take holidays. Some vendors may be less available. Fewer options but also fewer tourists at some venues. Late August begins to cool.

September

Mean daily maximum: 27.1°C | Rainfall: 73.7 mm | Price: Peak

Warm days, cool evenings, golden light and the grape harvest — and the month most often recommended. Worth knowing before you commit: September is wetter than June, and by a wide margin wetter than July. The recommendation is about temperature and light, not about dry weather. Book 12–18 months ahead, and build a real wet-weather plan.

October

Mean daily maximum: 21.6°C | Rainfall: 103.7 mm | Price: Moderate

Autumn colours, the olive harvest and truffle season — and, on the record, the second-wettest month of the year in Florence, after November. Beautiful October days are common; so is a wet one. Choose this month for the atmosphere and the availability, with a covered alternative that seats your whole guest list, not for the weather.

November

Temperature: 8–15°C | Rain: High | Price: Low

Cooler and wetter. New wine (novello) season. Truffle festivals. Perfect for foodie couples who want an indoor celebration.

December

Temperature: 3–10°C | Rain: Moderate | Price: Lowest

Christmas atmosphere in Tuscan towns. Quiet, intimate, romantic. Indoor celebrations by candlelight and firelight.

Our Recommendation

There is no clear winner, and the reason is worth understanding: in Tuscany the driest months are the hottest ones. July averages 26.2 mm of rain and a daily maximum of 32.2°C. September, at a far more comfortable 27.1°C, averages 73.7 mm. You are choosing between dry and hot, or comfortable and wetter — not between a good month and a bad one.

On the numbers, early June is the strongest single compromise: warm enough to be outdoors all evening at 29.1°C, drier than May at 47.9 mm, and not yet at July's heat. May is the most comfortable for guests standing outdoors in formal clothes. September and October buy you light, harvest and lower prices, at the cost of a genuine chance of rain.

How Season Affects Your Budget

We have removed the percentage savings that used to sit here — they were estimates, and no venue on this site publishes a price we could measure them against.

Where the seasonal effect *is* published is in the comune's own tariffs, and there it is substantial. In Lucca a non-resident pays €480 for a weekday morning at Palazzo Orsetti and €1,000 for a Saturday afternoon. In Cortona the council chamber is €800 on a weekday morning and €1,000 on a Saturday afternoon. Expect private suppliers to move in the same direction, and ask each of them what a midweek or shoulder-season date changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if it rains on my wedding day?

Even in summer, brief showers can occur. Always have a Plan B indoor space. Rain often creates the most dramatic, beautiful photos.

Is July too hot?

It can be. Schedule your ceremony for 5pm or later, provide shade and fans, and choose a venue with indoor air-conditioned spaces for breaks.

Can I have an outdoor wedding in October?

Yes, and many October days are warm — the mean daily maximum in Florence is 21.6°C. But October also averages 103.7 mm of rain, the second-highest of the year, so the indoor alternative is a requirement rather than a precaution: ask whether it seats your full guest list, what it costs, and who decides on the day. Start the ceremony earlier, around 3 or 4pm, because sunset comes sooner.

When do venues book out?

Popular venues for September Saturdays book 12–18 months ahead. Less popular dates may be available with 6 months' notice.

What about midweek weddings?

Easier to book, and cheaper where prices are published: Lucca charges non-residents €480 on a weekday morning against €1,000 on a Saturday afternoon, and Greve in Chianti €1,500 against €2,000 to marry at an approved villa. Private suppliers do not publish a midweek discount, so ask each one what your date changes rather than assuming a percentage.
