Guest Transport & Shuttles — frequently asked questions

Do our guests need a hire car?
In Florence, no — and they should be told so, because the historic centre is a restricted traffic zone enforced by cameras, and a fine for driving in without permission arrives months later at home. In the countryside the answer reverses: Chianti and Val d'Orcia have no taxis to hail and unreliable ride-hailing, so transport has to be arranged.
Is chauffeur-driven hire regulated in Italy?
Yes. Cars hired with a driver operate as noleggio con conducente, licensed separately from taxis under Italy's framework law of 15 January 1992, no. 21. For a wedding this matters in one practical way: confirm your operator is licensed and properly insured to carry passengers, particularly if you are booking through an intermediary rather than directly.
Coaches or minibuses?
Ask how a coach actually reaches the property before you book one. Some Tuscan estate approaches are narrow, steep or unmade — the white gravel roads that appear in every photograph — and will not take a full-size vehicle. The venue will know. Several smaller vehicles sometimes cost less than one that cannot get up the drive.
When do we need the last departure?
Fix it early, because it interacts with the venue's end time and any music curfew. Guests who have been drinking should not be driving on unlit country roads, so a return transfer is a safety arrangement rather than a courtesy. Agree the final pick-up time in writing with both the venue and the operator.
How do guests get from the airport?
From Pisa, the PisaMover runs the 1.8 km between the airport and Pisa Centrale in under five minutes, at up to 24 services an hour at peak and from six in the morning until midnight — one in summer — putting guests straight onto the rail network. From Florence airport the T2 tram reaches the city centre in 22 minutes. Tell guests which airport to use and how the last leg works.
