Wedding Florists — frequently asked questions

How far ahead should we book a florist?
Six to nine months for a peak-season date, and earlier if you want a specific studio. The final numbers and the design can be settled much later, but the date needs holding. Bring a rough guest count and a table plan when you do — both change the quote more than the choice of flower.
What is actually in season?
It moves through the year, and a local florist will tell you what is good in your month rather than what is available at a price. Broadly: spring gives you the green Tuscan countryside, high summer is dry and hot, and early autumn coincides with harvest. Ask what will look best in your week, not in the photographs you have collected.
What drives the cost of the flowers?
Volume and structure rather than the individual stems: how many arrangements, how large, and whether anything has to be built or hung. Ask whether delivery, installation, hire items such as vases and stands, and removal afterwards are included — and whether the quote is with or without IVA.
Can we move the ceremony flowers to the reception?
Often yes, and it is one of the few genuine savings in a wedding budget. It needs planning rather than goodwill: someone has to move them, there has to be time between the two parts of the day, and the arrangements have to be built so they can travel. Ask about it when you first discuss the design.
Will the flowers survive the heat?
This is a real question in a Tuscan summer. Florence averages a daily maximum of 32.2°C in July and 32.5°C in August, and arrangements standing in sun from midday will not look the same at eight in the evening. Ask your florist which flowers hold up, and when they should be installed on the day.
