Vintage Car Hire — frequently asked questions
Is a vintage car a practical choice in Tuscany?
It depends where. On tarmac between a town hall and a villa, yes. On a long unmade approach in August heat, less so — older cars run hot, many have no air conditioning, and gravel and low ground clearance do not mix. Ask the operator directly whether the car has made your specific journey before.
What if it breaks down?
Ask the question before you book, because it is the one thing that distinguishes a serious operator from an enthusiast with a beautiful car. What is the contingency vehicle, how far away is it, and who pays if the car does not arrive? Get the answer in writing rather than as reassurance.
Can it drive into a historic centre?
Not without permission. Florence's historic centre is a limited traffic zone, and other Tuscan towns restrict access similarly. A vintage car is not exempt because it is beautiful. Arrange the access through the operator or the venue, and confirm that it has been arranged rather than assuming the operator has handled it.
How long will we actually be in it?
Often less time than couples expect — the journey between the ceremony and the reception, and perhaps a short drive for photographs. That is worth knowing when comparing a half-day hire against a full one, and worth planning deliberately: fifteen unhurried minutes alone together is one of the few quiet parts of a wedding day.
